Meet the maker – Amanda Nelson

Att Pynta’s Amanda Nelson shows us how she creates the new Att Pynta scented candles and what inspires the fragrances

Each of the candles are created and hand poured in our South London studio. After much testing and experimenting with different waxes and scents, Amanda has found her perfect four fragrances. ‘I have always been a huge fan of scented candles and light them in my home most evenings, so being able to create my own range for Att Pynta has been something I was really excited to do,’ she says

Initially Amanda tried several different waxes to find the one with the longest burning time and maximum scent throw. She says: ‘Its really important to use the highest grade wax to ensure the candle burns correctly and releases the fragrance evenly.’

After that she set about picking the base notes she wanted for each scent. ‘I tend to lean towards candles that have cedar wood, leather and amber in them.  Those smells have a timeless element to them and help to elate your mood,’ she smiles

Amanda then tested lots of different top and heart notes for the candles, before settling on the four fragrances which have become part of the Att Pynta collection

Here she talks us through the different candles scents and why she loves them:

Pomegranate midnight has top notes of pomegranate, rose and plum with heart notes of patchouli, cedarwood, violet leaf and spice to help you unwind. Laced with base notes of musk, amber, vanilla and leather create a gorgeous scent to lift your mood. ‘This scent is one of personal favorites, the layers of fragrance create a beautiful aroma,’ she explains.

Cardamom Flower has a smoky, rosewood and fresh scent. With heart notes of patchouli, frankincense, spice and base notes of vanilla, myrrh, amber and musk, blended to invigorate your senses. ‘This scent is perfect to help you unwind after a long day or to create a welcoming atmosphere when entertaining guests,’ Amanda tells us as she smells the candle

The amber and white musk scent combines top notes of bergamot, geranium and lavender with heart notes of jasmine, lily and amber. The base notes include vanilla, musk, sandalwood and patchouli creating a fresh aroma. ‘There’s something elegant and romantic about musk that I just love, it’s a really inviting smell,’ she tells us

The Tropical Bergamot candle will help you escape to paradise. This gorgeous fragrance combines fresh bergamot, citrus and rich amber with warming notes of exotic coconut, vanilla and almond oil. ‘I had to have this scent in the collection, the subtle notes of coconut and almond oil remind me of being on holiday and the smell of long summer nights,’ she reminisces

Not only are the fragrances important to Amanda she also wanted them to burn in a gorgeous holder 'These matte glass vessel are hand painted in the UK, the high quality glass means you can use the holder after the candle burns out for make-up or maybe even a plant! I've always loved gold and black together so wanted to incorporate that in the candle design, I love the opulent look of these colours. Amanda says smiling

Why not dress up your home with a scent, and add a new dimension of opulence to your space. The only problem is picking which one…
