1. Measuring: How to get the right length curtains for you and your home

Decide if you want a curtain pole or track.

Curtain tracks:

Our curtain tracks are sleek and modern and are designed to be mounted to the wall or ceiling. Attaching the curtain track to the ceiling that goes from wall to wall  gives an illusion of a bigger room. See our curtains tracks here.

Do you require a different length of track than our fixed lengths? No problem, we offer a cutting service to customise the length of the track. Each custom cut added to the basket corresponds to 1 cut, so if you need more than one cut, you can add more of this product to your shopping cart. In the message box at check-out, write which track or pole you want to cut and to which length. Several tracks can be joined together to make a one long track with the use of an extension joint.

Curtain poles:

Our curtain poles are available in several different models, from chrome to solid wood in a black finish. Let the bar sit 20 cm above the window frame and have a width of 50cm on each side of the window frame, this will give the illusion of a bigger window and ensure you don't lose light when the curtains are open. See our curtain poles here.

Now it is time to measure the correct length for your home.

We think that the curtains look best when the fabric receives some support from the floor. We recommend letting the curtain sit on the floor surface slightly by adding an extra 1 cm to the length to allow the curtain to land on the floor. The recommendations below are based on using the Gotain curtain pleat hooks, poles or tracks.

  • Curtain track attached to ceiling: Measure from ceiling to floor and add 1 cm.

  • Curtain track attached on the wall: Measure from the top of the curtain track and add 1 cm.

  • Curtain pole attached to the wall: Measure from the underside of the pole and add 1 cm.

Measure the height and width of your window, on the inside of the windows frame. If you wish to make the curtains as dark as possible, we recommend adding up to 10cm in length.

Remember to frame your windows instead of covering them. Let your curtains distribute light and soften the room. See the full curtain collection here

    2. How to make sure you get the right width for your custom made curtains?

Our curtain panels are available in two standard widths, 140cm and 280cm. All of our curtains are sold in single panels.

The width of our 140cm panels are reduced by 35cm once our pleat hooks are added and the width will be about 90cm wide. When using a sheer curtain fabric  recommend letting them cover a minimum width of about 60-70cm. A 140cm panel covers a minimum width of 35cm and maximum of 90cm. If suspending a 140cm panel with a track you will require 2 pack of the low hooks inserting a pleat hook in each tab on the transparent hanging band. If suspending a 140cm panel  with a pole you will require 1 packet of the high pleat hooks, using a pleat hook in every other tab on the transparent hanging band.

The width of our 280cm panels are reduced by 70cm once our pleat hooks are added and the width of the panel will be about 190cm wide. If using a sheer curtain fabric we recommend letting them a cover a minimum width of 140-160cm. A 280cm width panel covers a minimum of 70cm and a maximum of about 190cm. If suspending a 280cm panel with a track you will require 4 packets of the low pleat hooksinserting a pleat hook in each tab on the transparent hanging bandIf suspending a 280cm width panel with a pole you will require 2 packets of the high pleat hooks, using a pleat hook in every other tab on the transparent hanging band.

    3. How to assemble your curtain track

    Adjust the length

Do you need a different length of your track than our fixed lengths? No problem, you can easily cut the track into a shorter one or join several tracks together to create a long one to fit your room!

To cut the track, you need a hacksaw. A hacksaw is a smaller saw for metal, and is available at most local craft stores. Start by marking out the length you need with a pencil, then saw off the track with steady movements to avoid notches. If you would like us to cut the track for you, we offer a handy cutting service that you can add to your basket. Just write in the notes section at the checkout to let us know the exact length you want the track to be.

Do you need a longer rail? With the help of a curtain track extension joint, you can easily join several tracks together to create a longer one. The joint part is attached between two rails, and does not affect how the curtain can be pulled back and forth along the rail.

    Mount the brackets

All of our curtain tracks come in a complete package with brackets that are fit both wall and ceiling. You can easily mount the brackets to the ceiling or wall with the screws that are included. If you have special conditions, such as concrete walls or ceilings, you may need to supplement with your own screws that suit your home.

Attach the tracks to the brackets

After the brackets are in place, it's time to get the tracks in place!

There is a small 'lever' on the wall / ceiling mount, it should point downwards to be able to hook on the track. Once the track is placed correctly, it is time to fix and lock the track in place. To do this, pull the small lever 90 degrees up to the side. You can easily release the track by pulling the lever back to the starting position.

    4. How to hang your custom made curtains

To make it as easy as possible for you, our curtains are equipped with a practical hanging band. Predefined distances are on the band to show where each curtain hook should go, to make sure the curtain folds are evenly distributed. Here are our tips to help you achieve the best results in your home.

Add the curtains pleat hooks: The folding band is sewn in a transparent material to be as discreet as possible. To locate the pocket folds for the hooks you can bend the fabric slightly to see where the hooks will go, or hold it against a light source. At the far end of the curtain panel, we usually only thread in one of the curtain hook "arms". By hanging each panel end this way, you do not get a crease right at the edges, as this crease can result in the curtain appearing to be shorter or uneven at the bottom against the floor.

If using a curtain pole to hang your custom made curtains we recommend threading the curtain hook arms in every other pocket fold on the transparent hanging band.

If using a curtain track to suspend your curtains we recommend threading the curtain hook arms in every pocket fold on the transparent hanging band.

Hang up your curtains: The use of a sturdy ladder or seeking assistance from a friend could help when hanging the curtains. Long curtains can be heavy, if you hang your curtains yourself, use your shoulder as a support and place the weight of the curtain over your shoulder when you attach the curtain hooks to your rail.

Steam the curtains: Don't forget to steam your curtains! We recommend using a water steamer to remove unwanted wrinkles. This will give a clean, professional finish to your curtains. Test the steamer against a piece of kitchen paper before using on the curtains.

    2. How to measure to fit our roman blinds in your home

    Measure in 2 easy step:

1 - Measure the height and width of your window, on the inside of the window frame as shown on the below image

2 - Select the width from our options to one that is closest to the dimension you obtained in step 1, for example if your window is 134 cm wide, select width 140cm so that the curtain can hang a little wider than the window glass. The length is tailored to your exact size!
